Taiwanese news outlet DigiTimes reported that its sources "suggested" that Apple would use Pegatron as its sole assembly manufacturer and begin mass production "at the end of the first quarter of 2023."
DigiTimes claims that a "rough estimate" of production in 2023 is set at around 750,000 units, revealing that its industry sources say it will be primarily aimed at the "commercial market." The Information and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported the product would cost between $2,000 and $3,000.
In August, an Apple-related company applied for trademarks for "Reality One," "Reality Pro" and "Reality Processor," suggesting that the headset and its processor would be branded Apple Reality.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple's AR/VR headset will weigh significantly less than current VR headsets and feature a high-resolution OLED microdisplay, while The Information claims it will be powered by the M2 chip found in the latest MacBooks and feature hand tracking, eye tracking, face tracking, leg tracking, and iris scan login payment capabilities.
So if reports so far are to be believed, Apple's products will be more expensive than The Quest Pro has a higher resolution, a more powerful processor, more features, and a slimmer design, despite being more expensive. Kuo predicts that Apple will hold a media event in January next year, deliver development kits 2-4 weeks later, and launch pre-orders in the second quarter of 2023 to launch before WWDC 2023.
