China News Service, Hefei, June 12 (Reporter Wu Lan) The research team of Professor Xiao Zhengguo of the University of Science and Technology of China has made important progress in improving the life of perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs) - successfully increasing the brightness of the LED to more than 1.16 million nits and the service life of more than 180,000 hours.
On the evening of June 11, Beijing time, the relevant research results were published in the international authoritative journal "Nature".
Perovskite is a new type of material with superior properties. It has the advantages of high luminous efficiency, low cost and flexible production. It has broad application prospects in solar cells, LEDs and detectors. However, due to the shortcomings of traditional perovskite materials such as difficulty in achieving high brightness and short service life of LEDs, it is difficult to apply them in actual products.
In order to solve this problem, Xiao Zhengguo's team proposed a "weak space limitation" strategy. They added specific compounds to the perovskite material and used a high-temperature annealing process to prepare a new perovskite film with larger crystal particles and fewer defects. This new material is more internally organized, greatly improving the stability and brightness of LEDs.
Research shows that in terms of efficiency, this new perovskite LED has a luminous efficiency of more than 22%. Compared with mainstream commercial OLED or LED screens currently on the market, the ultimate brightness of the new perovskite LED has reached 1.16 million nits (the maximum brightness of daily-use display screens is usually within several thousand nits).
According to the researchers, this breakthrough technology has not only successfully overcome the previous technical bottleneck of perovskite LED’s difficulty in achieving both efficiency and stability, but is expected to be widely used in high-end display screens, ultra-high-brightness lighting and other fields in the future, pushing LED technology into a new era.
