ams and Osram launch new generation OSLON® Square ultra-red plant lighting LED

On June 19, ams-Osram announced the launch of a new generation of its popular product OSLON® Square Hyper Red plant lighting LED, which is specially designed to increase plant growth speed and achieve optimal system cost performance.

ams Osram continues to develop key innovative technologies based on customer needs, providing high photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) LED solutions that are more efficient than the previous generation ultra-red 660 nm LED. The new OSLON® Square ultra-red LED products are expected to be used in all horticultural lighting applications, including greenhouse top lighting and interior lighting, single light source lighting and vertical farming applications.

The new ultra-red LED (product number: GH CSSRM6.24) can achieve an electro-optical conversion efficiency of 78.8% at a junction temperature of 25°C, while the previous generation product was only 76.8%. It allows indoor growers to save energy costs on artificial lighting when growing various crops such as vegetables, flowers and medicinal plants.

In addition, due to the use of ceramic packaging, the OSLON® Square LED product series can achieve high power and stability, making it ideal for harsh conditions such as high humidity in indoor agriculture. Regarding service life, the new GH CSSRM6.24 LED product further raises the standard, allowing the Q90 to achieve an ultra-long service life of up to 102,000 hours, ensuring stable harvests. LEDs can also withstand electrostatic discharge up to 8 kV per the ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 standard (Human Body Model) requirements.

Thomas Grebner, marketing manager of ams Osram, said: "ams Osram has innovated red light chip technology, which has significantly improved the performance of plant lighting LED products and improved the energy efficiency ratio at the ultra-red 660 nm wavelength, which is crucial for growers. Our technology can help growers easily upgrade lighting equipment, reduce energy consumption costs, and ensure high crop yields."

Key technical indicators include:

The PPF at 700mA current is 5.96 μmol/s, and at 350mA current it is 3.02 μmol/s.

The PPF efficiency at 700mA current is 4.32 μmol/J, and at 350mA current it is 4.62 μmol/J.

The peak wavelength is 660nm and the main wavelength is 640nm.

The spectral bandwidth is 25nm. The ceramic package with silicone lens has an area of 3.0mm x 3.0mm.

ams Osram has reliable self-developed LED technology and leads the plant lighting industry. Our LED technology covers various spectrums, such as ultra-red light 660nm, deep blue light 450nm, far-red light 730nm, red light 640nm and plant white light spectrum, covering various application scenarios encountered by indoor growers. In addition, we offer a variety of sensor technologies that cover a variety of grower needs for cultivation and environmental monitoring.
