All things light, ams and OSRAM lead the development of the optical sensing industry in all aspects

On July 27, ams-OSRAM held an online seminar on optical technology with the theme of "Light Sense for All Things". Through the four major themes of mobile and wearables, automobiles and travel, industry and medical, and lighting and intelligence, ams-OSRAM, as the world's leading optical solution provider, comprehensively demonstrated its rich product and technology portfolio in the fields of light emission and light sensing.

13 experts gave online speeches to introduce how ams and Osram's optical and sensing products can be applied in AR/VR, smart cockpits, smart industries, plant lighting, UV disinfection and other scenarios, promoting the development of various industries in the direction of mainstream market trends such as digitalization, intelligence, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Among them, on the theme of lighting and intelligence, ams-OSRAM displayed a wealth of optical products and solutions for plant lighting and ultraviolet disinfection, two emerging application scenarios with high popularity in the LED industry.

ams and Osram plant lighting LEDs and sensors support agricultural development

Chi Guangwei, customer technical support manager of ams-OSRAM, said that lighting products are constantly gaining attention in the agricultural field because they can assist the rapid growth of plants and poultry animals. Among them, the demand for LED plant lighting products has grown rapidly in recent years under the influence of industrial hemp, food shortages, population surge and other factors.

According to TrendForce forecast, the global LED plant lighting market will grow by 6.6% in 2022 to reach US$1.79 billion, and the compound growth rate from 2021 to 2026 will reach 11.5%.

LED plant lighting has great potential. However, compared with general LED lighting products, the application of LED plant lighting faces a series of complex tests such as energy consumption, light formula, reliability, and flexibility.

In order to meet the application needs of LED plant lighting in different planting scenarios and different plants in different growth cycles, ams-OSRAM has released a series of plant lighting LED product portfolios, including consumer-grade Duris® S5 and OSCONIQ® P3030 product portfolios, covering deep blue light, deep red light and white light.

For professional-level planting, ams-OSRAM has launched the OSLON® Square and Optimal series product portfolios, covering deep blue light, deep red light, far-red light, and white light. Among them, OSLON® Optimal is the latest product series, which has first-class radiation efficiency, excellent stability and reliability, and has certain cost advantages compared with other products on the market. In addition, the product's rich combination of light and color lamp beads can meet the needs of various planting scenes, providing great flexibility for plant lighting equipment manufacturers.

In May this year, ams-OSRAM released the OSLON® Optimal series of deep red light and far-red light products, and deep blue light and plant white light products are expected to be launched in the third quarter of this year.

In addition, ams Osram also demonstrated the latest multi-purpose spectrum sensor AS7343, which combines 14-channel spectral analysis and XYZ functions of visible light and infrared (IR) sensors. When used with LED lighting fixtures, it can reduce the power consumption of LED lighting fixtures and extend LED life, and can collect plant lighting parameters to optimize crop growth and yield.

ams Osram helps UVC LED applications continue to expand

According to ams Osram marketing manager Fan Ga, ultraviolet light has a wide range of applications. Among them, UVC deep ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 200 to 280nm is mainly used for sterilization and disinfection.

Compared with traditional mercury light sources, UVC LED light sources have the advantages of being mercury-free, selectable wavelengths, long life, and high efficiency, so they are gradually replacing the status of mercury light sources. With the advent of the epidemic era, people's attention to personal and public health continues to increase, and the application of UVC LED has also received more attention.

The application of UVC LED extends from consumer products and home appliances to indoor surfaces, ventilation, and professional-level scenarios such as medical care, public places, and large-scale water treatment.

According to TrendForce’s analysis, UVC LED has the opportunity to be introduced from home appliance applications to original automobile air conditioners, dynamic water sterilization, manufacturing facilities and factory automation applications. It is predicted that the UVC LED market size will have a compound annual growth rate of 24% from 2021 to 2026.

UVC LEDs have broad application scenarios. In order to meet the application of UVC LEDs in different occasions, ams-OSRAM has launched the OSLON® UV product series, which uses ceramic substrates and has high radiant flux in the 273~275nm band, long life, and high photoelectric conversion efficiency (WPE).

In addition, ams OSLON® UV products have excellent antivirus effects. According to experiments conducted by the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Padua in Italy, ams OSLON UV LEDs can effectively disinfect the new coronavirus.

Currently, ams OSLON® UV products have been used in toothbrush disinfection racks, elevator handrails, medical equipment, tableware disinfection cylinders, mite removal devices and other products, as well as surface and air disinfection in various public places such as buses, subways, and high-speed rails.

Summary

In this seminar, ams-OSRAM not only presented a panoramic view of the company's optical product portfolio, but also more clearly depicted ams-OSRAM's development route and the main areas it is currently focusing on.

At the development strategy sharing meeting in April this year, ams-Osram has clearly expressed its development goal of becoming the world's leading optical solution provider, and has gradually separated from traditional driving power supplies, lighting control systems, traditional lighting fixtures and other businesses to focus on the development of sensing and optoelectronic device businesses.

It is foreseeable that ams-OSRAM will continue to focus on the optical and sensing business in the future, leading the sustainable development of the optical sensing industry. (Text: LEDinside Irving)
