Delta Electronics, a major power supply company, is actively protecting "coral", the key to the underwater biological chain, and is cooperating with experts in coral restoration to use Delta's LED farming automation technology and equipment to assist in the cultivation and selection of heat-resistant coral seedlings. The foundation also cooperates with the Aquarium to train corporate volunteers. The number of Delta volunteers now accounts for 80% of Taiwan's total qualified CoralNet (International Coral Reef Monitoring Network) members.
Zheng Chonghua, founder of Delta Group and chairman of Delta Electronics Culture and Education Foundation, pointed out that the time for humans to adjust to warming is getting shorter and shorter. This year, coral bleaching in Taiwan’s peripheral waters has become more and more serious. Forest fires in the Americas, heat waves in Europe, floods in South Asia, and droughts in Africa have once again proved the impact of climate change on humans. The Living Planet Report pointed out that humans have wiped out more than 60% of the animal population since the 1970s.
Zheng Chonghua said that the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), which has been postponed for a long time due to the epidemic, will be reconvened in Canada at the end of the year. He hopes to achieve the next stage of "biodiversity" goals and action plans and jointly protect the diverse species on the earth. Delta's board of directors has also recently passed relevant policies to formally incorporate biodiversity into the company's sustainability strategy. Coral restoration actions and environmental education video concerts are all concrete practices that focus on biodiversity.
The coral restoration plan launched by Delta on its 50th anniversary last year has completed the first phase of seedling cultivation and is expected to reach the restoration target of 1,000 plants by the end of the year. In order to arouse the public's attention to global warming and biodiversity issues, Delta will also continue its 50th anniversary ecological video concert this year, which will be held at the Taipei Pop Music Center on September 10.
Delta Foundation Vice Chairman Guo Shanshan said that in recent years, Delta has joined hands with the Marine Science Museum and private conservation teams to invest in coral restoration in the Northeast Cape. Delta has also called on Delta employees to serve as marine volunteers to assist with routine maintenance and underwater operations at the restoration base. After a year of hard work, some coral seedlings were transplanted to the Chaojing Bay Resource Conservation Area in August this year.
Using 8K projection technology and live performances by the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, Delta performed the BBC's "Earth Pulse II" video concert on the 800-inch screen of the Taipei Pop Music Center on September 10, leading the audience to experience the vigorous vitality of diverse landforms such as islands, mountains, rainforests, deserts, and grasslands.
