On June 8, according to Korean media ETnews, Japan's Canon Special Machine published a paper on the theme of RGB OLEDoS evaporation machine at the recent SID Display Week.
OLEDoS is a display technology that evaporates organic matter on silicon wafers to achieve a pixel size of only tens of microns. It is considered a next-generation technology because it enables ultra-small, high-resolution displays.
At the conference site, Canon Tokki exhibited a 12-inch wafer evaporation machine. The equipment uses a precision metal mask made by electroplating process to achieve a 3200 PPI level RGB pixel pattern. According to reports, this is achieved through 0.1? level precision alignment technology.
The company said: "We are still promoting the development of 5000 PPI level masks."
Analysis believes that Canon Tokki is actively entering the field of OLEDoS evaporation machines in addition to its traditional main products - glass substrate 6th generation and 8.6th generation evaporation machines, and is developing next-generation RGB OLEDoS evaporation technology for this purpose.
It is reported that OLEDoS is mainly divided into two methods: white OLED and RGB OLED. White OLED uses white devices combined with color filters, while RGB OLED directly evaporates devices that emit RGB light.
Although RGB OLED does not use color filters and can reduce light loss, it has not yet been commercialized due to the need for a finer mask than existing technologies and the difficult process of achieving precise alignment below 0.1 micron.
The report pointed out that Canon Tokki is the leading company in the 6th generation evaporation machine. In the field of OLEDoS evaporation machines that use silicon wafers as substrates, Korean company Sunic System has taken the lead in occupying the market and supplied more than half of the equipment.
A person in the display industry said: "Unlike white OLED, RGB OLEDoS is an untapped market, and large-scale production facilities have not yet been introduced, so competition among evaporation equipment manufacturers is expected to be very fierce."
