With the rapid development of ultra-fine pitch displays, virtual shooting and social media image dissemination, market competition is shifting from hardware specification-oriented to experience-oriented. AM-MiP: AM-MiP enhances the MicroLED display ecosystem
In terms of new generation display technology, AM-MiP head Xu Chenke shared the development results of AM-MiP technology and demonstrated the important milestone of Micro LED moving from passive driving to active driving.
Compared with traditional MiP solutions, AM-MiP can reduce drive current by more than 40 times, increase light efficiency by more than 2 times, and supports 16-bit grayscale control, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision display specifications, effectively improving brightness, dynamic contrast and color performance. In addition, Amap has established nine core technologies covering mass transfer, advanced packaging, Black Matrix isolation and AI mixing Bin, which can significantly improve picture uniformity, increase yield and reduce mass production costs. In the future, LP-MiP technology combined with glass substrates will further promote the popularity of ultra-large-size, high-resolution MicroLED display products and bring more innovation opportunities to the commercial display, virtual production, e-sports display and home theater markets.
Stereyo: Unlocking the potential of driver IC integration with next-generation display architectures
Stereyo founder Robbie Thielemans proposed a new generation of display architecture, emphasizing that display quality should not only be measured by specifications such as brightness, color coordinates, or color depth, but should return to the optical performance actually perceived by the human eye and camera. The LED display effect is also affected by spectral characteristics, brightness uniformity, contrast, time response, observation conditions and temperature changes. Therefore, the phenomenon of "same specifications, different images" is common in practical applications.
In order to improve display consistency and image quality, Robbie further proposed a complete video processing architecture from content processing, time correction, temperature compensation to driver-side nonlinear correction, and emphasized that correction should be deployed where errors occur to achieve more accurate color, grayscale and dynamic performance. This technical architecture is particularly suitable for virtual production, studio displays, MicroLED and active display systems, providing a new design direction for the next generation of high-definition LED displays.
Accumulation: Display × AI establishes a common language for display quality
In addition to technological progress, how to establish objective and consistent quality standards has also become a focus of industry attention. Cai Dinghong, Business Development Director of Macroblock Technology, announced the AI screen inspection system "MBEyes" at the conference. Through Macroblock's specially developed artificial intelligence image analysis algorithm, it can automatically identify bright lines, dead pixels, uneven blocks, Mura and other image quality defects, and establish a quantitative scoring mechanism and a graded verification system.
MBEyes can not only reduce the repetitive workload of LED display engineers during the screen inspection process, but also has the opportunity to establish unified quality communication standards for the industry and promote LED display quality from subjective feelings to objective verification. The platform can select corresponding quality indicators in response to different application needs such as outdoor concerts and virtual productions to reduce differences in subjective judgments. Macroblock Technology hopes to use MBEyes as the core carrier to solve the acceptance pain points of the LED display industry and establish next-generation quality verification standards that are fair, just and have a common language.
Thor AV: Buy your second LED display first
Stefan Sv?rd, CEO of Thor AV, titled "Buy Your Second LED Display First", starting from the purchase of camper vans, and pointed out that specifications and price do not equal the user experience; LED display investment should return to stability and quality after long-term use.
Stefan pointed out that what end customers really buy is not a set of brightness, pixel spacing or refresh rate numbers, but a system that can stably present content during long-term use, public events and in front of cameras. Customers value natural skin tones, accurate colors, low-grayscale detail, image uniformity, and flicker-free, streak-free, and scan-line-free photography.
Long-term maintenance is also the core of purchasing decisions, including stable heat dissipation, batch consistency, calibration mechanisms, spare parts strategies, and whether rapid repairs can still be performed after the fifth year. The true cost of an LED system includes not only the purchase price, but also years of power consumption, calibration, spare parts, labor, downtime, early replacement and reputational damage. If the equipment fails at an event or live broadcast, it will not only affect the performance, but also may damage the customer's brand and the market's trust in the LED industry.
Although the 1/24 scanning design can effectively reduce costs by controlling 24 lines in a time-shared manner through a single drive channel, 1/24 scanning can also halve the number of shared lines and invest more driver resources to significantly improve grayscale and refresh rate performance, making it the preferred solution for camera shooting and lens framing. However, even with the same camera, processor and specifications, the visual effects presented by the display may still be significantly different.
Stefan emphasized that LED display buyers should view LEDs, driver ICs, MOSFETs, controllers, correction technology, cameras and live audiences as a complete system, and accurately select the most appropriate solution through trustworthy collaboration between customers, system integrators, manufacturers and technology partners.
Accumulation: Seeing the real challenges of future display systems from Sphere
Yang Zhehao, LED display product director of Macroblock Technology, took the global indicator case MSG Sphere as an example and pointed out that when LED displays become urban landmarks, immersive entertainment spaces and large-scale commercial media platforms, their value is no longer just a hardware device, but a core asset that can continue to create traffic, content value and commercial benefits.
He further pointed out that in the future, with the popularity of mobile phone shooting, virtual shooting applications and high frame rate content, the industry needs to rethink the definition of refresh rate. At present, the refresh rate of LED displays on the market has generally reached 7,680Hz, but flickering is still easily visible in the peripheral vision of the human eye. Even when viewed for a long time, it will cause the audience to feel dizzy. This problem is especially obvious in low grayscale or low brightness performance, mainly because the refresh rate of low grayscale or low brightness images is insufficient. Therefore, how to increase the refresh rate ramp-up speed in the low-gray stage becomes crucial. The 7,680Hz that is generally recognized in the market can no longer fully meet the needs of high-brightness and high-speed shooting scenes. The higher-end 15,360Hz refresh capability will become an important direction for the next wave of high-specification displays.
Director Yang also mentioned that Sphere spherical screens have very strict specifications and quality requirements for LED driver chips. In addition to refresh rate and grayscale effects, transmission stability and system reliability are the primary considerations. This is also Macroblock’s core value in the continuous evolution of driver chip technology.
Sphere is moving from a single venue to a global network. For each additional venue, the demand comes not only from the outside ball and internal main screen, but also from the entrance channel, advertising screen, control screen and surrounding commercial space. What’s more, the proven display, driver and content technologies from the first venue can be replicated on subsequent projects. For the supply chain, this means that a landmark project may further form a platform-type, long-term market opportunity, rather than a one-time order.
