The number of LED cinemas in China is the first in the world, and the number exceeds 240

On February 23rd, according to CCTV Finance, there are currently over 240 LED cinemas in China, making it the country with the highest number of LED cinemas.
The 2026 Spring Festival films cover a variety of genres such as comedy, martial arts, and science fiction. Many of the films have Chinese independently developed LED exclusive versions (such as "Flying Life 3" and "Star River Dreams"), which can provide a more delicate viewing experience.
Policy support+mature technology and other factors help China's LED movie screens land domestically and overseas
At present, supporting policies have been successively introduced in various regions, and the release of special notices by the National Film Administration has established industry standards. The maturity of LED movie screen technology in China has promoted the transformation of domestic LED cinemas from "rapid expansion" to "quality and efficiency improvement".

On June 23, 2025, the National Film Administration issued a notice on the development and regulation of digital movie LED (Light Emitting Diode) cinemas, establishing a complete management standard from multiple aspects such as construction standards, equipment requirements, testing and acceptance, operation and maintenance, and setting a "hard line" for the development of LED cinemas. The policy specifies that the construction of LED cinemas must comply with national and industry standards such as GB 50016-2014 "Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings" and GY/T 311-2017 "Technical Requirements and Measurement Methods for Audiovisual Environment of Cinemas", and the equipment must obtain an international film universal certification certificate.
In terms of acceptance management, the policy proposes strict "double testing" requirements: after the installation of LED projection systems in cinemas, professional testing institutions recognized by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) must complete audio-visual quality acceptance and copyright protection testing in accordance with the "Technical Requirements and Measurement Methods for Digital Cinema LED Cinemas" (DY/T 8-2023) and international standards, and form a testing report before they can be put into use. This requirement ensures the quality of screening from the source and avoids the problem of some cinemas' technical gimmicks being greater than actual experience in the past. At the same time, policies encourage equipment manufacturers and suppliers to carry out joint research and development in industry, academia, and research, support the production of 2K and 4K LED cinema versions, enrich program supply, and form a "technology content" two-way drive.
