Recently, Intel announced a technology patent submitted in 2022. The patent discloses an IC packaging structure integrating Micro LED: the semiconductor die is embedded in a glass substrate, and the TGV in the glass substrate directly supplies power to the Micro LED on the die, and is then connected to the motherboard through the packaging substrate.

Xiamen University team cracks Micro LED size effect, setting record for 2μm efficiency

Recently, a team from Xiamen University, Nanjing University and Fudan University published a paper in "Nature Photonics" proposing in-situ dry repair and passivation technology. Based on this technology, the peak external quantum efficiency of 2μm blue and green Micro LEDs reached 64.7% and 55.1% respectively, and the 3387 PPI micro display module verification was completed.

Osaka University realizes terbium-doped AlGaN electroluminescence, a new path for Micro LED full-color display

Recently, the research team of Osaka University and Ritsumeikan University realized terbium-doped AlGaN-based LED electroluminescence for the first time, which can produce four colors of about 620, 580, 550 and 490nm, and is expected to provide a new path for single-chip Micro LED full-color display. At present, the external quantum efficiency of the device is still less than 0.01%, and the team is improving the luminous efficiency by optimizing materials and doping processes.

According to news on September 14, Fucai continues to promote Micro LED business and expands applications to AI data center optical communications. The company expects to complete Micro LED production capacity preparations in the second half of 2026 and complete the construction of mass production equipment before the end of the year to prepare for mass production in 2027. At the same time, Fucai is promoting Micro LED high-speed optical interconnection solutions, has completed single-channel 1.25Gbps component verification, and plans to conduct 800G module system verification.

Alto Electronics Micro LED Intelligent Manufacturing Center was officially put into production, laying out high-end micro-pitch displays

On September 16, Alto Electronics announced that the Micro LED intelligent manufacturing center has been officially completed and put into production, mainly for P0.3-P1.5 high-end micro-pitch ultra-high definition panels. After the project is put into production, the company's Micro LED production capacity layout will be further improved. The products are mainly used in high-end retail, ultra-high-definition cinemas, AR/VR, professional film and television, outdoor advertising and other scenarios.

Samsung Display plans to invest 300 billion won to accelerate the mass production of 12-inch RGB OLEDoS

According to Korean media The Elec, Samsung Display plans to invest approximately 300 billion won to promote mass production of 12-inch RGB OLEDoS, with a planned monthly production capacity of 3,000 wafers, and plans to supply core evaporation equipment from Sunic System. Samsung Display plans to start equipment installation in 2027 and targets mass production in 2028.

The project, with a total investment of 2 billion yuan, will start construction in April 2025 and the main structure will be capped in December. Haorunda's automotive LED packaging project received environmental impact assessment approval

On September 14, Bengbu Ruituo Electronics' automotive LED packaging project received environmental impact assessment approval. The project is located in Bengbu Dehao Optoelectronics Technology Park. It plans to build an automotive LED packaging production line. After completion, it is expected to have an annual production capacity of 840 million LED packaging products. Bengbu Ruituo Electronics was established in 2024 and mainly develops high-power ceramic LED lamp beads for automobiles.
